Amy Smart is a Canadian essayist and memoirist who writes emotionally honest, story-driven nonfiction about rebuilding after life's hardest chapters. Blending dry humour with heartfelt reflection, her work explores cancer, betrayal, motherhood, reinvention, and the beautiful absurdity of being human.

After surviving breast cancer while navigating the collapse of her marriage, Amy discovered that some of life's most profound lessons arrive wrapped in complete absurdity. Her writing embraces both the heartbreak and the humour, because sometimes they show up in the very same moment.

Her work has appeared in CURE Magazine and Cancer Network, and she is the author of the weekly Substack publication Chapter Two, where she shares personal essays about resilience, identity, healing, and the unexpected twists that shape our lives.

Amy is currently writing her first creative memoir, Unfortunately, Yes. It chronicles surviving cancer and betrayal, with occasional commentary from a caffeine-addicted talking bear.
